MMA News & Notes: Cung Le Still Interested in Facing Anderson Silva
Cung Le is still interested in facing Brazilian MMA star Anderson Silva when the former Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight champion returns to action next year.
A fight between Le and Silva was discussed several times in the past when both fighters were still on top of their game.
At that time, Silva was still the UFC middleweight champion and Le was still dominating Strikeforce middleweight division.
In a Great MMA Debate podcast, Le reiterated his desire to face Silva, saying that the Brazilian is still one of the best fighters, if not best of all time, despite losing in his last two fights against Chris Weidman.
"Of course there is," Le said when asked if he still has plans to face Silva. "He's one of the greatest. Sometimes styles matchup perfectly against other styles and Anderson just happened to find his kryptonite in Chris Weidman. It just happened that his last fight ended really bad with that broken shin bone. I'm amazed that he's back and ready to fight in January."
Le is set to face Michael Bisping in the main event of UFC Fight Night 48 on Saturday in Macau. A win for either fighter would give them a great chance of getting a title shot or a big-money fight. And if given the chance, Le will gladly pick a showdown against Silva, whom he considers as a legend.
"For some reason if there's an opportunity to fight Anderson, of course I would love to fight the legend. He is a legend, I look up to him and it would be an honor to fight him," Le said.
The 42-year-old added that he wants to get the fight soon, pointing out that Silva is already 39 years old, and neither of them are getting any younger.
Silva, who sustained a gruesome leg injury during his rematch against Chris Weidman in December last year, will return to the Octagon against Nick Diaz at UFC 183 on Jan. 31 in Las Vegas.
A win against Diaz is not expected to give Silva an immediate title shot, giving Le a chance to fulfill his dream as long as he wins against Bisping on Saturday.
