Aaron Hernandez Pleads Not Guilty to Murder, Weapons Charges in Death of Odin Lloyd
Aaron Hernandez has officially pleaded not guilty to murder and weapons charges in the death of Odin Lloyd.
The former NFL star sat in a Fall River, Mass. Superior Court as a clerk read the murder and five weapons-related charges to Hernandez. Hernandez's fiancée sat on one end of the courtroom while Lloyd's mother was seen on the other side.
The former NFL tight end was due in court today for his arraignment after spending the last two plus months in the Bristol County correctional facility following his arrest in connection with Lloyd's death. He was formally indicted earlier this month.
Lloyd's body was found near Hernandez's multi-million dollar mansion in the Attleboro, Mass. area just days before police arrested Hernandez.
According to news reports, police say that Hernandez has sat in his prison cell reading "Tuesdays with Morrie" while awaiting the next step in the legal process.
Hernandez has been denied bail from the beginning, but he will have another chance at a hearing on Oct. 9.
The nation has followed the story closely as the former Patriots star went from being known as an emerging tight end catching touchdown passes in the Super Bowl to being a jailbird facing life in prison if convicted. The prosecution seems to have plenty of evidence against Hernandez, ranging from security camera footage in his home to text messages from Lloyd, and more.
Hernandez's alleged accomplices, Ernest Wallace and Carlos Ortiz, have also been in jail. Authorities say the two men were in the car with Hernandez when Lloyd was shot.
