NFL Sept 8, 2013 Results: First Sunday Night Football Winners and Losers
The 2013 NFL season has just kicked off and the first Sunday Night Football has just ended with a few notable wins and disappointing losses.
The biggest football league in the world has just commenced last Thursday (Sept. 9) with a stunning letdown for the current NFL champs Baltimore Ravens, as they got trampled by the Denver Broncos, 49-27. Of course, the rally was headed by Broncos QB Peyton Manning who threw 7 touchdowns - a record tying feat that has not been done in 44 years.
Fast forward to today and the first Sunday night football of the season has already made its mark. More than 10 matches were fought on the field today, and several had already started their bid at bringing home the Vince Lombardi trophy.
Here's a list of some of the outstanding games played today.
New England Patriots vs Buffalo Bills, 23-21
It was too tight to call the game early, with only a few seconds left to decide whether the Pats were headed for a 1-0 stand against the Bills. With only 5 seconds left, Stephen Gostkowski hit a 35-yard field goal to give the Patriots the win, 23-21. Tom Brady led the team with 2 completed TDs and one interception.
Kansas City Chiefs vs Jacksonville Jaguars, 28-2
It was a very disappointing performance for the Jaguars, as they started their season with barely any stats in their match against the Chiefs. The Jaguars only made 2 points in the first quarter and were without any the rest of the game to lose, 28-2. The win gives the Chiefs their most lopsided opening season-win in 50 years, notes NFL.com.
Green Bay Packers vs San Francisco 49ers, 34-28
In one of the most awaited matches tonight, the Packers lost to last year's Superbowl runners up San Francisco 49ers, 34-28. The two teams kept it tight, scoring 7 each in the first, second and third quarters. However, with a little less than six minutes left in the fourth, Frank Gore scored a close TD to give the 49ers the win. Colin Kaepernick had 3 touchdowns and a career high 412 yards.
Dallas Cowboys vs New York Giants, 36-31
The Cowboys made a good run in the second and third quarters to seal a win against the Giants, 36-31. New York was led by Quarterback Eli Manning who made an impressive 450 yards, 4 TDs and 3 interceptions, but this wasn't enough to steal the win from Dallas.
