Captain America 3 Rumors, Cast & Release Date: Four Things We Know About Upcoming Marvel Movie
With "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" having been released on Digital download and the DVD being released in two weeks, fan boys are starting to get excited for the third installment.
While there are still two years until the release of the film, a lot of information has already been revealed:
Film Will Be Released on May 6, 2016
Originally, the third installment was supposed to open alongside "Batman v Superman" but Warner Bros moved the Bat flick. As a result, "Captain America 3" will open the summer of 2016. Marvel has had success opening the summer three times with the "Iron Man" series. With "Winter Soldier" having scored some of the best reviews from a Marvel movie and having made $256 million, this new film is likely to make even more money in 2016.
Anthony and Joe Russo Will Direct
The Russo brothers will be back to direct the next installment and having already spoken about some of the details. In an interview with IGN, Joe Russo stated, "We started working on Cap 3 probably back in February. That's been a lot of the process up to this point, divining what elements of the tone are going to carry over, what elements of the narrative will carry over, and how do we do something that in effect will blow people's minds."
The director have also stated that they do not like to have the same type of tone for their movies, and as a result, the third film will be a bit different.
When the directors were originally announced for the second installment, there was a lot of skepticism because they were known for comedies and for the terrible film "You Me, and Dupree." However, after the success of the second installment, pundits and fans are secure the third film will be another critical darling.
Hawkeye May Appear
"The Winter Soldier" featured the Scarlett Johansson, which was the first time a character-dedicated Marvel movie showcased more than one superhero. As a result, there is a chance the same thing could happen in the next instalment. Jeremy Renner has already hinted at a possibility of Hawkeye appearing.
In an interview with the Collider, he stated, "There are rumblings of Captain America 3. I don't know what's going to happen there. I've got to find the time, man. I'm trying to stay home and I can't."
There is no word about Johansson returning, but based on the ending of the second instalment, it seemed like the character could still play an important role in Captain America's story.
Joe Russo also hinted potentially including other superheroes in the film. He told Comicbook.com "That's such a hard question because we've kind of already done that. Do they have to be under contract with Marvel? Maybe they are at another studio. When I started collecting, 'The Secret Wars' was one of the first books I ever bought, so that's always been an obsession of mine to see something of that scale done -- a crossover. I don't know if that would ever be possible, with all the different situations at the studios. But I would love to see a lot of characters on screen together."
The Winter Soldier Will Return
At the end of the "Winter Soldier," the film was left as a cliffhanger with many plot points unfinished. The Winter Soldier left and the relationship between Captain America and him was also unresolved.
The Russo brothers have already confirmed that Captain America's nemesis/ex-partner will return for the third installment. The brothers told Movie.com, "The relationship between Cap and the Winter Soldier was never resolved at the end of the last movie. Thinking about where that relationship can go is a piece of the puzzle for us for sure. That character is a wonderfully, beautifully tragic figure in the sense of, 'Is he the world's most feared assassin or is he the world's longest serving POW?' Is he innocent by reason of insanity or the equivalent of it because he's been mind controlled or is he irredeemable? Is he ever going to be acceptable to Cap again as the friend that he used to be before he was the Winter Soldier? These are very philosophical, emotional questions that pique our interest and definitely form one layer of the next movie."
