NYPD Investigating 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' Director Bryan Singer for Sexually Assaulting Man in His 20s
Soon after Hollywood director Bryan Singer dodged a series of sexual abuse lawsuits, he is under investigation for a sexual assault committed last year in New York City.
BuzzFeed first reported Bryan Singer, the 48-year-old director of "The Usual Suspects" and "X-Men: Days of Future Past," was under investigation by the NYPD.
A man in his 20s accused Bryan of sexually assaulting him in early 2013; however, Martin Singer (no relation), the director's attorney, denies the allegations.
"Neither my client nor any of his representatives have been contacted by the NYPD, or anyone else about an alleged criminal investigation of my client. My client did not engage in any criminal or inappropriate behavior with anyone in New York or elsewhere," he wrote to BuzzFeed in an email. "False investigations are filed all the time and no action is taken by the authorities."
The attorney also accused the site of carrying out "a witch hunt against my client because he is gay" and threatened legal action if the story was published.
However, NYPD Deputy Chief Kim Royster confirmed that there was an ongoing investigation by the Special Victims Unit on Singer.
"We have a formal compliant [sic] on file for criminal sexual act," she said in an email to BuzzFeed. "The complaint was filed on May 9th of this year, however the incident occurred on March 23, 2013. The case is open and being investigated by our Special Victims Squad."
A source in the police also confirmed with the New York Daily News "Singer has been named by the complainant."
According to Page Six, the accuser is a 21-year-old man from Virginia. Sources told the tabloid the man met Singer and a group of friends at XL Nightclub, a gay club on West 42 Street near 10th Avenue, on March 22 at 10:30 p.m.
The victim alleges Singer and his friends made him drink an orange drink with drugs and then Singer took the man to a hotel where he was sexually assaulted. Because of the drugs, the man does not remember which hotel it was, the source told Page Six.
However, sources say Singer will not be charged due to lack of evidence.
