'Criminal Minds' Season 10 Cast and Spoilers: New Season Will Reveal Where Alex Blake Goes After BAU Departure
TV fans will be delighted to know that Season 10 of "Criminal Minds" will give closure to the sudden departure of Alex Blake.
The Season 9 finale ended with a shocking twist when Blake, one of the show's main characters, decided to quit working for the FBI's elite Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) after being traumatized by Spencer Reid's life-threatening shooting. Although he managed to recover from his gunshot wound, Blake felt the need to reevaluate her life and move on.
According to the Examiner, Jeanne Tripplehorn's contract on the show was up, so producers decided to give her a calm and quiet farewell.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Erica Messer revealed that Season 10 will address what Blake choose to do with her life.
"You'll learn in the teaser that she's actually moved to Boston and she's teaching full time ... She's not an FBI agent anymore, but she's taking all of her skills and teaching them to others, which is a pretty honorable thing to do," said the showrunner.
In the wake of Blake's exit, Jennifer Love Hewitt has been cast on the show as a series regular. She'll be playing Kate Callahan, a "seasoned undercover agent whose stellar work at the FBI has landed her a coveted position with the Behavioral Analysis Unit," reports Entertainment Weekly.
"Kate is smart, charming, and wise for her years," Messer told TV Guide about Hewitt's character, an eight-year FBI agent. "Her background is criminal psychology, and her passion comes from wanting to make the world a safe place. She's had a lot of personal loss that makes her a patriot and a nurturing figure to those in her personal and work families."
Messer also hinted about the upcoming season, telling TVLine, "You see [Kate] doing something you don't see our team ever doing, which is schmoozing with a bad guy, working undercover to take a pedophile down. We've never seen our team pretend to like a criminal, so right off the bat she's different in that way."
The season premiere of "Criminal Minds" airs on Oct. 1 on CBS.
