US Open Day 9 Schedule, Scores, Match Times: Roger Federer, Grigor Dimitrov Eyeing Quarterfinal Showdown
Roger Federer and Grigor Dimitrov will look to advance to the quarterfinals of the 2014 U.S. Open when the two tennis superstars take court on Tuesday at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Federer, who is eyeing to finally win an elusive 18th Grand Slam title, will go up against Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain in the fourth round where the former world No. 1 will be a heavy favorite to win.
The second-seeded Swiss, who is coming off an impressive win against Marcel Granollers in the third round, is expecting a difficult match against Agut, saying that he is not familiar with 17th-seeded Spanish.
"Never played him, I think he's done extremely well," Federer said of Agut. "Didn't he win three different tournaments on three different surfaces this year? He's quick on his feet. He doesn't miss much. He's consistent. He's got a pretty good first serve. He's overall a solid player."
On the other hand, Dimitrov will also look to book a spot in the final eight when collides with Gael Monfils of France.
Dimitrov is coming off a 0-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-1 win against David Goffin of Belgium, while Monfils defeated fellow French Richard Gasquet 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 in the third round.
Dimitrov, the seventh-seeded player in the tournament, said that he knows Monfils well, which is the reason why he is confident about his chances of advancing to the quarterfinals.
"We all know Gael. When he's at his best, it's tough to play. But, you know, as I said, I respect him. I played I think a few times against him. I think it's going to be a good matchup for me," Dimitrov said. "It's a great stage to be in, second week of a slam. This is where it all enters and you're starting to see what's been happening."
On the women's side, 10th-seeded Caroline Wozniacki, who eliminated Maria Sharapova in the fourth round, will go up against 13th-seeded Sara Errani of Italy in the quarterfinals. Unseeded players Belin Bencic and Shuai Peng will face in the other quarter-final match of the day.
