While appearing as the cover girl for Elle Magazine's October issue, Jennifer Lopez opened up about her past relationships and her thoughts on love for Elle's October cover story, the New York Daily News reports.

In addition to her many talents, reports E! News, Lopez is also known for her failed high profile relationships with celebrities such as Ben Affleck, P. Diddy, Marc Anthony and her most recent breakup with Casper Smart.

According to tv3, though she admits that she is still "really hurt" over her Casper Smart split, Lopez is still optimistic about experiencing more successful relationships in the future.

''Everybody has seen that I make mistakes. I rush in, I get swept up and I ignore the signs. But so many of us are guilty of these things," the 45-year-old mogul tells Elle. "Each time it goes wrong, it's hard. I get really hurt but I have to let myself go, 'What did I do? What can I learn?' And as hard and as hurtful as things get, I want to believe I will be able to go one step higher. I've got to hope that if I keep going I will eventually get it right.''

Lopez then opened up about the effect that her divorce and breakups have had on her children.

"It's tough because I know they feel the void of that male presence," she continues. "When Marc and I first broke up, I did think: 'I wish I could have held this together.' But when you realize it's not the right thing for anybody, you think: 'OK, well how do we make this work, how do we make this better, how do we make this great for the children anyway?' "

Part of Lopez and Anthony's attempt to "make it great" for the children is allowing them to spend time with family in the Bronx.

"My kids go and stay in a one-bedroom apartment in the Bronx all the time, or a studio with their aunts, uncles and cousins and their grandmother. They get it," she says.

Elle magazine's J.Lo October issue hits newsstands on Sept. 4.
