iOS 7 Release Date Live Blog, Apple September 2013 iPhone 5S/5C Announcements
After 10 a.m. PT/1 p.m. ET today, rumors about the new iPhone and Apple software will be rumors no more, as Apple is set to make the long-awaited announcement about iOS 7 and the iPhone 5S/5C from Apple's Campus in Cupertino, Calif. You can check out the live blog of the event at ABC News, with updates beginning around 9:30 a.m. PT/12:30 p.m. ET.
If Apple decides to live stream the event, they'll post it here.
The announcement of iOS 7 may just trump the news of its subsequent hardware at today's event. At the Worldwide Developers Conference in June, Apple previewed iOS 7, which is poised to be the biggest change to the software since its introduction in 2007.
According to ABC News, it has a brand new design, featuring revamped animations and icons and many new features. Some of the new features include a new Command Center for easy access settings, new Mail and Calendar apps, and a new multitasking view Camera with a different design. Siri, the voice companion that was first introduced with the iOS 5 and first supported on the iPhone 4S, will be equipped with a different voice.
According to TechRadar, the icons for iOS 7 will have a more "rounded" feel and will be more colorful as well. The notifications bar will be available on the lock screen and will also be a full-screen feature. Users will also be able to swipe from the bottom of the screen up, to control features such as Airplane Mode and the newly integrated flashlight.
The iOS 7 software will most likely be available Sept. 20, when the iPhone 5S and 5C are expected to go on sale in Apple stores. iOS 7 will be available for download on the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S and iPhone 5.
