Details about Google's supposed next-generation Nexus tablet, the Nexus 8, are slowly trickling out into the technosphere: Here's what we know about the device so far.

For starters, the new tablet should be manufactured by HTC. Neither Google nor HTC has confirmed any details, but tipsters and a code spotting point to the HTC "Volantis" or "Flounder" as the next-generation Nexus tablet. An unspecified HTC tablet recently passed through the National Radio Research Agency in South Korea, prompting many to declare it the Nexus 8.

"The other bit of information we got from that leaked image was an alleged model number. The model number in that leaked image is '0P8210000′ and we see this same number showing up in the RRA certification entry. The certification entry says this device is manufactured by HTC," reads an Android Origin report. 

If the tablet is indeed the upcoming Nexus tablet, then it means that the device is completing its final testing rounds, and 

The tablet will also reportedly feature an 8.9-inch screen, putting it closer to the 9-inch mark and is the reason why many have started calling the Nexus 8 the Nexus 9 instead. The larger Nexus tablet will reportedly feature a "high performance" screen, tech consulting firm IHS Technology told CNET. If specs floating around are accurate, then the new Nexus tablet could sport a display with a 2048X1440 resolution, giving it around 281 pixels per inch.

Other rumored specs for the tablet include an NVIDIA Logan 64-bit processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB and 32GB storage options, 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with optical image stabilization, and a 3-megapixel front shooter. New tipster on the block, @upleaks, claims that the tablet could have up to 4GB RAM along with NFC and LTE capabilities. The new Nexus tablet is also said to ship with a keyboard and cover much like Microsoft's Surface tablet.

Google and HTC are also said to have encased the next-gen Nexus tablet in aluminum for a premium feel that will better allow it to compete with Apple's iPad. The higher specs and revamped design are said to push the Nexus 8/9's price past previous Nexus tablets'. In exchange, Google is also rumored to have a follow up to the popular Nexus 7 tablet that would be priced for budget-minded consumers.

Many expected Google to reveal a new Nexus tablet at its annual I/O conference during the summer, but as the event came and passed without mention of a new tablet, speculation started roaring high about whether or not Google has abandoned the Nexus lineup in favor a more premium "Silver" program. Lucky for shoppers, Google insists the Nexus lineup is here to stay and that it is vital to the Android's production process.

The Nexus 8/9 is currently tipped for an October release, just in time for the busy holiday shopping season, alongside a new Nexus smartphone and a new version of Android dubbed "L" or "Lemon Meringue Pie."
