"American Horror Story" actress Emma Roberts recently opened up about Season 4, titled "Freak Show," and the possible departure of co-star Jessica Lange.

While at Target's After-Hours Shopping Event, Roberts revealed that the upcoming season is frightening.

"'American Horror Story' in general scares me to death," she told E! News. "I have to say, 'Freak Show' is really scarier. ... I read the script and I was having nightmares."

In the upcoming season Roberts will play Maggie, who does not look like a freak.

"But that might not be true," she said.

This season, star Lange will play a German woman managing one of the last freak shows in the U.S. She has previously stated that Season 4 will be her last.

"I think all of us have our fingers crossed that Jessica will come back next season," Roberts said. "At least I do because I love working with her. I hope it's not her last season."

Roberts first appeared on "American Horror Story" in Season 3, dubbed "Coven."

"I was a fan the first two seasons before I came on," the 23-year-old actress said.

She added that when she watches certain episodes, she does not remember some scenes because she hid while they were filmed.

"American Horror Story: Freak Show" premieres on FX on Oct. 8 at 10 p.m. The season takes place in 1950s Jupiter, Florida.

"White Collar" actor Matt Bomer will appear in one episode.

"The freakier, the better," he told E! News this week. "Bring it on. There's not much out of my comfort zone anymore."

The actor reportedly does now know what character he will play.

"I'm actually looking forward to this season," Lange told Entertainment Weekly backstage at this year's Emmys. "This season is going to be the most extraordinary that we've done. If it can all come together and we keep on track, it's going to be something really, really special."
