Serena Williams will look to score a remarkable win when she faces Caroline Wozniacki in the 2014 U.S. Open women's final on Sunday at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York.

Williams booked a spot in the final with another 6-1, 6-3 win against 17th-seeded Ekaterina Makarova of Russia, while Wozniacki earned the right to face the top seed with a win against Peng Shuai, who retired in the semifinals due to severe cramping.

The top-seeded Williams will put her name on history books with a win, which would give the 32-year-old her 18th Grand Slam title, tying Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova's record. She is also looking to become the first woman to win three straight titles at Flushing Meadows since Evert won four straight from 1975-1978.

"I'm just really excited to be in the final," Williams said after winning against Makarova on Friday. "In the beginning of the week I definitely wasn't sure I would make it this long. Definitely wasn't sure I'd be here. So I'm just elated, to be honest, to have made it this far."

On the other hand, Wozniacki is eyeing her first Grand Slam title in her second U.S. Open final stint. The 24-year-old Dane has been playing well as of late, which was very evident during her fourth-round win against fifth-seeded Maria Sharapova of Russia.

Williams will be a heavy favorite in the final after winning in eight of nine meetings with Wozniacki.

Williams recently defeated Wozniacki in the semifinals of the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati and in the quarterfinals of the Rogers Cup in Montreal last month. Both matches went the distance, and Williams is expecting another tough match against her good friend.

"I definitely expect another close match," Williams said. "She really knows my game well and knows how to play. She's so consistent. I think that's one of the things that makes her really tough. So I just have to be ready for that and, again, just stay calm and just be able to relax and be happy."
