Serena Williams showed on Sunday why she is the best women's tennis player in the world as she scored a dominating victory in the 2014 U.S. Open final at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Williams won 6-3, 6-3 win against good friend Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark to complete her impressive run in this year's tournament, taking the title without dropping a single set.

"It was an unbelievable moment for me," Williams said via the tournament's official website. "Playing all those matches this summer really helped me to get my confidence up. I just needed that confidence and calmness. I've been practicing so hard and all that hard work was showing through today."

With the win, Williams won her sixth U.S. Open title, tying Chris Evert's record for most Open singles title, while also grabbing her 18th Grand Slam title -- the same number of titles Evert and Martina Navratilova won over their careers. She is now just four Grand Slam titles away from tying Steffi Graf's 22 for the most titles in the Open era.

The top-seeded American also became the first woman to win three consecutive titles at Flushing Meadows since Evert won four straight from 1975 to 1978. It was also the third time she won the U.S. Open title without dropping a set, having accomplished the same feat in the 2002 and 2008 edition of the event.

Wozniacki, on the other hand, will have to wait again before winning her first Grand Slam title. The 10th-seeded Dane also lost in the 2009 U.S. Open women's final.

But despite losing in the final, Wozniacki, who is expected to barge into the top 10 of the world rankings, was satisfied with her performance in the tournament, saying that he just lost to a better player.

"You really deserved it today. You played better than me," Wozniacki said. "You're an unbelievable champion and you're an inspiration to me, both on and off the court. You're an unbelievable friend, and you definitely owe drinks later."
