Manny Pacquiao Next Fight: Pacquiao Motivated to Give Chris Algieri His First Loss
Manny Pacquiao is motivated to score a convincing win in his upcoming fight against Chis Algieri on Nov. 22 at the Venetian Resort in Macau, China.
In an interview with BoxingScene, Pacquiao said that he is aching to give Algieri the first defeat of his career, saying that he loves facing undefeated fighters.
Algieri, who is coming off a split decision victory over Ruslan Provodnikov, holds a perfect 20-0 record with eight knockout victories.
"He is undefeated and a world champion," Pacquiao said of Algieri. "I love to fight undefeated guys. I want them to experience that first defeat."
Meanwhile, Pacquiao and his camp reportedly picked Stan Martyniouk to become one of the Filipino boxing icon's sparring partners for his preparation for his World Boxing Organization welterweight title defense.
Martyniouk, who holds a 13-2 record, told BoxingScene that trainer Freddie Roach approached him to gauge his interest in helping Pacquiao for his next fight, and the 29-year-old did not hesitate to accept the offer.
"I ran into Freddie Roach after the fight, and he said he thought my style is close to Chris Algieri, so he asked me if I want to go to the Philippines to be a sparring partner for Manny Pacquiao," Martyniouk said. "I've been out to Wild Card for several years. He saw me spar Denis Shafikov, and when he asked me, I told him of course I'd do it."
Reports indicated that the 5-foot-10 lightweight will play a big role in Pacquiao's training camp because the Tallinn, Estonia, native is as tall as Algieri and allegedly has the same fighting style as the reigning WBO light welterweight champion.
"We're both the same height," Martyniouk said of Algieri. "We both use a lot of footwork and use the ring a lot. We both have a good jab. We use a lot of angles and not stay in place. Overall I think I can do a good job emulating his style, and it's going to be great exposure for me."
