Haley Joel Osment Movies 2014: 'Sixth Sense' and 'Pay It Forward' Star Prepares for New Role
Actor Haley Joel Osment is officially not a child actor anymore. In his newest role, he sheds any semblance of the little psychic boy from "The Sixth Sense."
While on the set of Kevin Smith's upcoming film, "Yoga Hosers," Osment was photographed Tuesday in his costume. He looked nearly unrecognizable on the Los Angeles set in an old-fashioned suit with slicked-back hair and a thin mustache.
The 26-year-old is one of many big stars in "Yoga Hosers," including Johnny Depp and his daughter, Lily-Rose, as well as Smith's daughter Harley Quinn Smith. The film will feature the two actors' daughters, who play teenage girls who join forces with a manhunter, played by Johnny Depp, to fight evil powers that "rises from beneath Canada's crust and threatens their big invitation to a Grade 12 party," according to the Hollywood Reporter.
According to Huffington Post, Osment recently spoke about his rise to stardom at age 11 when he starred opposite Bruce Willis in the 1999 film "The Sixth Sense," calling the fame of a child star as a "double-edged sword."
"When you're a kid and you grow up, it takes some time for people to associate you with more things other than that initial thing," Osment said at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival. "So it's a challenge but I've been lucky enough to do a lot of projects recently that are all over the map ... It's created a lot of opportunities that I wouldn't have had otherwise."
As for leaving his image completely behind him?
"I think it would be a mistake to consciously try and fight it," he said, according to the Canadian Press. "I'm very proud of those films. It's a really happy thing. You try and do something to try and shatter that image in people's minds, it's kind of not a nice thing to do to your audience. I think I would be trying too hard, you know?"
"Yoga Hosers" is currently shooting and has a tentative release date for June 2015.
