NBA Free Agents 2014 Rumors: Phoenix Suns, Sacramento Kings, Indiana Pacers Interested in Zoran Dragic
Zoran Dragic performed well in the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain, and reports indicated that his performances were enough to catch the attention of several NBA teams.
Marc Stein of ESPN reported on Thursday that the Phoenix Suns, Sacramento Kings and the Indiana Pacers are interested in signing Dragic, the younger brother of Suns guard Goran Dragic.
Zoran Dragic, who averaged 12.9 points to go along with four rebounds in seven games in the FIBA World Cup, signed a new deal with Spanish club Unicaja Malaga, but reports indicated that the 25-year-old has an option to move to the NBA.
Unicaja Malaga will allow Zoran to leave as long as it will be done before the new Spanish league season starts next month, while the team who will successfully acquire him will have to pay a buyout fee of around $1 million.
Among the interested, the Suns are understandably the favorite to land Zoran because he would love to play alongside his older brother, who was the NBA's most improved player last season.
Goran Dragic also said after a tuneup game with Team USA last month that he is hoping that Zoran will be able to get a contract in the NBA soon.
"He was our best player on the court. It means a lot to play with him," Goran said of his brother. "We don't see each other so often. OK, on Skype, but it's not the same. Now it's a perfect situation for us to play together with the national team. We can share the court and maybe do some damage. And hopefully someday we can play each other in the NBA."
The Suns are also expected to make a strong push to acquire Zoran, knowing that signing him would improve their chances of keeping Goran, who is expected to become an unrestricted free agent next summer.
Zoran, who is projected to play as shooting guard in the NBA, could also get a bigger role in Phoenix if the Suns fail to keep Eric Bledsoe, who has yet to sign a new contract after turning down a four-year, $48 million offer earlier in the offseason.
