iPhone 5S Specs: Defining Each Feature, from Battery Life to iOS 7 to Display; Watch Phil Schiller's Keynote Here [POLL]
Apple has finally revealed one of its newest smartphones: the iPhone 5S. While the phone features the same specs as its predecessors, the tech giant added a few key details that can make consumers shell their hard-earned money for it. But are these features worth the switch? We take a closer look at these new details below.
The Gold Standard
Apple has always kept its design to a minimum - clean, simple and sleek. Even with the iPhone, it has always come in two colors - black and white - until now. The iPhone 5S' aluminum casing will now be arriving in Gold. Consumers can now choose from three colors: white, space gray and gold.
Touch ID
One of the most notable key features of the 5S is its new fingerprint sensor. An added security measure for users, Touch ID is used to unlock the phone using the user's own finger. The sensor, installed in the Home button and is made from a sapphire crystal, reads the fingerprint of the user simply by placing the finger on the button. It allows for multiple fingerprint recognition and is capable of 320-degree readability, so users can unlock their phone regardless of the 5S' orientation.
The Dynamic Trio
A7 Chip
The iPhone 5 and even the new iPhone 5C only boasts of an A6 chip, and people already say the phone works fast. Well, Apple takes fast to a whole new different level with the new A7 chip. According to the tech giant's website, the new processor is twice faster than the A6 in CPU and graphics performance.
Notably, the A7 is specifically built to be "incredibly energy efficient."
64-Bit
Together with the fast A7 processor is 5S' graphic brilliance. The new smartphone is the first ever smartphone to feature a 64-bit display, "that's desktop-class architecture in a superslim phone," Apple notes.
iOS 7
Another awaited release from Apple is its new mobile operating system, the iOS 7. The new OS will come installed in the 5S and 5C. Moreover, according to company, the iOS 7 is built specifically for the 5S' 64-bit display and will perfectly take advantage of the A7 chip - the dynamic trio of the new iPhone.
Improved iSight Camera
The 5S also features an improved camera that is packed with notable features. The new 8-megapixel iSight camera features larger sensors and pixels, a white and an amber LED flash, continuous burst mode which snaps 10 photos per second, auto image stabilization and slow-motion 720p video among others.
Battery Life
Even with the updated and more powerful specs, Apple says it made these features energy efficient and won't deplete your power. The built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery of the 5S can serve up to 10 hours of LTE browsing, 20 hours of talk time and up to 250 hours of standby time.
