CBS ‘CSI: Cyber' Cast News 2014: Luke Perry Signs on, Will Star as Nick Dalton
Actor Luke Perry -- best known for his role as Dylan McKay on the hit TV series "90210" -- is now gearing up to play Nick Dalton on the CSI spin-off "CSI: Cyber," TV Line reports.
According to TV Line, Perry's character, Dalton, is supposedly "a former FBI agent who was destined to run the cyber unit in Washington DC. After a classified falling out, Dalton set his sights on becoming a 'futurist' for the private sector ... Dalton will hold many secrets to Avery's back story."
Initially, the Dalton character was written to be the head of the cyber division, Entertainment Weekly reports.
However "CSI: Cyber" writers later changed Dalton's initial character description and made Patricia Arquette's character, Special Agent Avery Ryan the head of the newest CSI division, according to Entertainment Weekly.
The inspiration to create "CSI: Cyber" initially stemmed from an April episode of "CSI" and the work of real-life cyber psychologist Mary Aiken, TV Line reports.
The plotline for the upcoming "CSI" spinoff "centers on the FBI's Cyber Crime Division, which targets illegal activities that start in the mind, live online, and play out in the real world," TV Line reports.
In addition to Luke Perry, the new "CSI: Cyber" cast also includes James Van Der Beek as FBI Agent Elijah Mundo, Charley Koontz as Agent Daniel Grummitz, Peter MacNicol as Avery's supervisor, Assistant Director Stavros Sifter and Shad Moss (aka Bow Wow) as cyber-intrusion savant Brody "Baby Face" Nelson, according to TV Line.
Following the news of Bow Wow joining the "CSI" spinoff cast, the show's creator, Anthony E. Zuiker released an official statement praising the rapper turned actor, according to BET.
"Bow Wow is a gifted young actor who will have the responsibility, through his character, to set an example for young people who watch the show to 'do what's right' even when you know 'nothing but wrong.'"
"Cyber: CSI" will debut midseason on CBS.
