X-Men: Apocalypse Release Date, Cast, Teaser & News: Six Things We Know
After the success of "X-Men: Days of Future Past," Fox will release the third installment to the "X-Men" reboots.
The film, which will be directed by Bryan Singer, already has a title ("X-Men: Apocalypse") and there is a lot of speculation as to where the next film will take the series.
So what do we actually know?
James McAvoy Returns as Professor X and Will Go Bald
The actor has already confirmed his participation in the next film as the young Professor X and he recently said that he will lose his hair for the film. While promoting his latest film, "The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby," McAvoy said in an interview, "I think I'm losing my hair, finally."
He added, "I'll be older in this one."
The actor also confirmed that writer Simon Kinberg would be producing and writing the latest installment.
Channing Tatum is Rumored to Appear as Gambit
Back in May, Tatum was confirmed to be starring in a Gambit "X-Men" spinoff. Producer Laren Shuler Donner confirmed the news to Total Film and stated, "He's a rogue, Channing -- he's a rascal, just like Remy LeBeau. And he can handle the action, we all know that. And he's got a really good heart ... I think he'll be great for Gambit."
Tatum was also excited and he stated, "Gambit is the only X-Man I've ever loved."
While this does not necessarily confirm the character's involvement in the next installment, the film's official IMDb page has Tatum down as a rumored actor.
The rumors could definitely be true, especially if Fox is thinking about building its own Marvel world like Disney did with The Avengers.
Apocalypse Will Be Main Villain?
Given the title of the film, it is suspected that the character of Apocalypse will be explored. In the comics, the villain was born as En Sabah Nur, the first mutant in Egypt with the "X gene," which grants mutants superpowers. However, Fox has yet to confirm if the character will be involved, although, the character did appear in a teaser at the end of 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' assembling a pyramid while his minions the Four Horsemen looked on in the backdrop.
Production to Begin in April
With the film set to come out in 2016, production on the sequel is likely to begin in the next few months. According to Journel e Montreal, the film will be shot in Canada and sets will begin to be constructed through end of the year. If this announcement is true, then there will likely be casting news in the coming months.
More Action!
After "Days of Future Past," it seemed it would be hard to top the epic nature and the amount of battles the film contained. However, writer Kinberg and Singer have promised this new one will be even bigger. Singer stated, "From a visual standpoint it actually may be a bigger movie than "Days of Future Past," because there'll be disaster movie imagery, like the title would imply."
He added, "You won't feel at the end of the movie that it set up 'Apocalypse.' What it does is it sets up possibilities. But what we'll discover in 'Apocalypse' is that events in this movie made that happen."
Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult and Evan Peters Are Back
IMDb is confirming that many of the stars from "Days of Future Past" will be back after a successful second installment. Lawrence will reprise her beloved Mystique while Fassbender will play Magneto. Hoult will return as Dr. Hank McCoy a.k.a. Beast while Peters will reprise Quicksilver after his scene-stealing appearance in "Days of Future Past."
The complete cast has not been announced, but there are likely to be many more mutants that return, including Hugh Jackman's iconic Wolverine.
