Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal admitted that he is interested in acquiring Cristiano Ronaldo, who is reportedly eyeing a return to Old Trafford.

Van Gaal said that he is always interested in bringing a superstar to Old Trafford as proven by the moves he made to acquire Angel di Maria and Radamel Falcao this season.

The Dutch boss said that he will make a bid to acquire Ronaldo if given the chance, but he is quite sure that Real Madrid will not sell the Portugal international anytime soon.

"It is always possible, like what I said with Falcao, players like Ronaldo give a lot of extra to selection or to a team, but I don't think Real Madrid shall sell him," van Gaal said via ESPN FC.

Ronaldo was a huge star for Manchester United where he scored 118 goals in 292 appearances before he was sold to Real Madrid for £80 million transfer fee.

A source close to the situation said in an interview with Goal.com that Ronaldo, who recently questioned Real Madrid's transfer moves this summer, is indeed interested in finishing his career with Manchester United.

"Cristiano talks about United all the time," the source said. "The club had a difficult time last season, but he expects them to return to the top very soon. He is seduced by the idea of finishing his career at Old Trafford. He has great memories -- it was his happiest time as a footballer."

Chelsea is also being linked to Ronaldo as rumors suggested that Blues manager Jose Mourinho is also interested in convincing the 29-year-old superstar.

Mourinho and Ronaldo spent three seasons together at Bernabeu, but the Portuguese manager admitted that they did not enjoy a good relationship at Real Madrid.

"There is no relationship," Mourinho said via The Telegraph. "He plays for Real Madrid and I am Chelsea manager. We do not tend to meet in the street. There is no relationship, but there are memories. I remember the good times and the bad times."
