‘Fashion Police:’ E! Announces It Will Continue Without Joan Rivers
On Friday, E! released a statement saying that the network will continue on with its show "Fashion Police" that the late Joan Rivers hosted prior to her death.
The E! statement explained the reason behind the network's decision to move on with the show came after Joan's daughter, Melissa Rivers, gave E! her blessing.
"We are deeply saddened by the loss of Joan Rivers and, for the last two weeks, have turned our attention to honoring her memory on all of our platforms," the E! statement reads. "We have also thought long and hard about what Joan would have wanted as it pertains to the future of Fashion Police. We decided, with Melissa Rivers' blessing, that Joan would have wanted the franchise to continue. Fashion Police will return in 2015 commencing with Golden Globes coverage on Monday, January 12. No further details will be announced at this time."
Prior to E! 's announcement, "Fashion Police" co-host Giuliana Rancic spoke with ABC News about her prediction that Joan would want "Fashion Police" to continue on without her.
"A part of me is like Joan would want Melissa and us and the team to go on and I know she would, but it's just a matter of can there be a show without Joan? Do we want to do a 'Fashion Police' without Joan? I don't know," she told ABC News.
Although "Fashion Police's" newest season will begin next year, the E! Network along with "Fashion Police" co-hosts Melissa Rivers, Kelly Osbourne, George Kotsiopoulos and Rancic all reunited for a special Joan Rivers tribute edition of "Fashion Police" on Friday.
"For the last four years, this set has been to the funniest, most outrageous voice in comedy," Melissa said in her introduction of the tribute show. "This chair was the place where a woman spoke the truth about celebrities and fashion and did it in a way that was hilarious and absolutely, one hundred percent original. Tonight we want to say goodbye the only way my mom would want us to, by remembering the incredible jokes, the unbelievable guests and all the moments on set and behind the scenes that made 'Fashion Police' must-see television around the globe."
