BBC 'Sherlock' Season 4 Air Date & Premiere: Producer Mark Gatiss Says Date Has 'Moved Significantly Closer'
Die-hard "Sherlock" fans have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of the "Sherlock" Season 4 premiere, and there's good news to report -- it's underway and the air date is closer than most initially thought.
"Sherlock" Season 4 is reportedly "in the works" -- "In fact, producer Mark Gatiss commented that they have "moved significantly closer to getting a date in the diary for series four," Bustle reports. That means there will be more "Sherlock," hence more Benedict Cumberbatch, which is what fans want.
The BBC One drama, is "a contemporary take on Arthur Conan Doyle's classic detective set in present day London." In addition to Cumberbatch, it stars Martin Freeman, Louise Brealey, Rupert Graves, Una Stubbs, Andrew Scott and Amanda Abbington.
The Emmy-winning actors are in demand and Cumberbatch's "super busy schedule" may be to blame for the Series 4 delay.
According to writer and director Steven Moffatt, "Benedict and Martin [Freeman] are making some movies. If you say 'Who cares about movies?' I agree with you, but they are doing them so we've got to schedule around that," Bustle adds.
In an earlier report, "the previous schedule still stands -- a Christmas special in 2015 and a Season 4 premiere in 2016, which will have three episodes."
Cumberbatch and Freeman play Holmes and Watson with an intense and serious approach, but the two stars also lose it sometimes.
Entertainment Weekly highlighted an outtake featured in the new Sherlock: The Complete Seasons 1-3 Limited Edition Gift Set.
Besides seeing the actors in a different light, the gift set also features every Sherlock episode on Blu-ray and DVD, and bonus features including new commentaries, behind-the-scenes featurettes for each season-three adventure, limited-edition art cards, and collectible busts of the two actors in character -- maybe this will hold over "Sherlock" fans in the meantime!
