Marcos Maidana lost in his rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr. on Sept. 13, but there are those who believe the Argentine is still looking forward to big things ahead of him.

In an interview with BoxingScene, British boxer Amir Khan stated he believes that Maidana will bounce back from two straight defeats against Mayweather, similar to what he did before.

Maidana, whose record dropped to 35-5 with 31 knockouts, lost to Khan in 2010, but returned stronger to beat Erik Morales and Petr Petrov. He lost to Devon Alexander, but he bounced back with four straight victories, including a big decision win against then-unbeaten Adrien Broner.

"Maidana is still a good name," Khan said. "He's been beaten a couple of times in his career -- but Maidana is a fighter, a true tough guy and you can never take that away from him. Being a fighter, you lose but it's how you come back. And I think Maidana will come back like when he beat Broner. I think Maidana will do good when he comes back."

Maidana pushed Mayweather to the limit in their first showdown in May, but the reigning pound-for-pound king scored a more convincing unanimous decision win last week. But despite losing to the unbeaten champion, Khan said that Maidana performed well in the rematch.

"Maidana fought a great fight and he was throwing a lot of punches," Khan said. "He was throwing a lot of shots, but Mayweather was blocking a lot. But still Maidana put on a great performance. He is a very strong and very aggressive."

Sebastian Cortusi, Maidana's adviser, said that Maidana is planning to take an extended rest. Cortusi is hoping that Maidana will earn another big fight next year, saying that they are looking at the possibility of facing Manny Pacquiao, Khan, Danny Garcia or Juan Manuel Marquez.

"God willing, there are big names to face next year, as I humbly believe that Chino has shown that he belongs at the top level," Cortusi said via BoxingScene. "In private, we've talked about Manny Pacquiao, a rematch with Amir Khan, Danny Garcia, Juan Manuel Marquez - who are all first class fighters."
