Paula Deen Apologizes, Opens Up About Racism Scandal
It's been more than a year since Paula Deen was revealed to use a racial slur, and she opened up about what she's been up to in the past year.
She explained that she decided to step back and reevaluate her life. She wanted to be able to see the situation from different angles.
"I've learned so much over the last year," she said. "I really feel like it's gonna require another book. We are working on a documentary, because I feel like everybody needs to know the whole entire story."
She describes herself as having been very naive. And though she's learned to protect herself more, she doesn't want to turn into someone who is cynical and doesn't believe there are good in people.
She went on to explain that the words she used were hurtful.
"They disappointed people and frankly, I disappointed myself," she said. "And for that, I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry for the hurt that I caused people because it went deep."
As a result of her words, Deen was fired in 2013 from the Food Network. She was also dropped by Walmart, Target and QVC.
Deen is launching her own network on Wednesday. The Paula Deen Network will be online, and it will have her Food Network shows, a game show and more things. There will be 100 new shows, which have been filmed in the last year.
The network gives her and her son the chance to try things that are out of the norm, such as Bobby Deen dressing up in an '80s jacket and taking on a different character.
And Deen also saw another positive to this next chapter in her life. Before, she spent her time traveling, but now, she gets more time with her family.
"You take your lumps, lick your wounds and move on," she said.
