Minecraft for PS4 & Xbox One Release, Gameplay, Mods & Mojang: Transfer Xbox 360, PS3 Data to Next-Gen Consoles
"Minecraft" has been released on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One now for a few weeks, but some gamers may not be taking full advantage of what the new versions offer.
For those of you who spent a lot of time creating worlds on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of "Minecraft," fear not. All that time was not spent in vain; you can import your previously created worlds onto your next-generation consoles.
The game doesn't look much different, as the graphics haven't appeared to changed. But the worlds are 36 times larger than they were in the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 version, according to a report from IGN. This means gamers can vastly expand worlds they made in the last version.
If you bought "Minecraft" on a last-generation console, the new version will run you $4.99. For those new to "Minecraft," the game is $19.99.
Now, to the important part: how to transfer data onto the new consoles, from CNet.
To get a "Minecraft" world created on the Xbox 360 onto the Xbox One, start the game on the 360 and click on "Play Game." Choose the saved game you wish to import on the Xbox One and press the Y button on the controller.
Then start "Minecraft" on the Xbox One and choose the "Play Game" option. Press the X button on the controller and the game will start downloading the saved map, and when it's downloaded, you can start playing right where you stopped on the older console.
Players with multiple worlds that they want to import to the Xbox One will find that only one world can be imported at once. If the user wants to bring in another map, they'll have to start the process again.
To get a "Minecraft" map from the PS3 to the PS4, start the game on the PS3 and choose the "Play Game" option. Pick the saved world you wish to transfer, then press the R1 button on the controller and press Upload Save for PS Vita/PS4 and press the X button.
Once the game is fully uploaded, start "Minecraft" on the PS4. Choose the "Play Game" option and press the square button on the controller. Once that map downloads, select it and you are free to start playing.
A quick word of advice to players who wish to upload old maps and have not bought the game: you will not be able to upload an Xbox 360 map onto a PS4 or upload a PS3 map onto an Xbox One.
