Julián and Joaquin Castro: Vogue Article About Rising Political Stars Inspired Eva Longoria to Produce a TV Show
From "Desperate Housewives" to "Devious Maids," the TV star and producer Eva Longoria is about to embark on another Latino-inspired entertainment project with "Pair of Aces." The Longoria-produced TV show -- titled "Pair of Aces" -- was inspired by a Vogue article about the Texas Latino twins: Mayor Julián Castro of San Antonio, and U.S. Congressman Joaquin Castro.
Longoria has an eye and a pulse on the growing TV market that is in need of some Latino voices. With the success of her produced "Devious Maids" -- which has been greenlit for a third season -- Longoria and her production company UnbeliEVAble Entertainment, along with Conde Nast Entertainment, are reuniting for their newest TV project, "Pair of Aces."
"Pair of Aces" was the title of a 2013 Vogue article. Within the article it profiled the Democratic rising stars of the Castro twins, Julián and Joaquin. The article explained that they were a political phenomenon. Although the brothers have separate lives and interests, they both have careers in public service, with Julián serving in the executive branch of government, and Joaquin as a legislator.
Longoria's new produced TV show, "Pair of Aces," is loosely based on the Castro twins' lives. "Pair of Aces" is a political drama which landed at ABC. It is created and written by Meredith Lavender, and Marcie Ulin (ABC's "Nashville"), Deadline reported.
"Pair of Aces" is about two brothers, Chris and Alex Reyes, who are Latino golden boys. Besides being brothers, they are best friends and rivals. The Reyes brothers are rising stars in Texas politics. The destiny of the Reyes brothers has been manipulated by their mother Maria. Maria is driven and determined to make the Reyes family into one of the most powerful dynasties in modern politics, Deadline reported.
The drama is said to also explore the American dream and its lies, as well as blackmail and manipulation as ways of rising to power in Texas.
Longoria's UnbeliEVAble, and Ben Spector will be producing. Also producing are Conde Nast's Dawn Ostroff and Gina Marcheschi.
Longoria and Conde Nast reunite. Besides "Pair of Aces," last season the pair teamed up for a drama that was also based on an article from a Conde Nast magazine, Glamour's Real Deal; it sold to CBS, Deadline reported. This season, UnbeliEVAble also sold a medical drama titled "Critical" to NBC.
There is still no word on the debut date of "Pair of Aces."
