iPhone 5s Release Date & Features: Stun Gun Phone Case Planned for iPhone 5s/5c
The reality of smartphone theft can be seen almost anywhere now, from warning signs on train stations to the new iPhone's fingerprint sensor. One company has taken iPhone security to another level in the form of a stun gun attached to the end of a phone case.
The Yellowjacket case is priced at $140 and is described as having the capability to give a "powerful sting." Stun gun cases are already available for the iPhone 4 as well as the iPhone 4s. According to ABC News, the company's founder and president Seth Froom said that the case will be available in time for the holidays and will be available for preorder soon.
"Really in that moment when the violent crime does occur, we want to give our users a way to escape that situation," Froom said to ABC News. "We want to give them a preventative step to where they don't become the victim in the first place."
Froom told ABC News that he believes the stun gun is a good complement to the fingerprint sensor and that the phone would be more vulnerable without both combined.
"What Apple is doing is a great step forward. They are clued in to what is happening," he said. "However, it isn't a preventative measure. They can't fully vet that out. That's where we come in. We add the preventative measure. What if you can prevent that theft entirely?"
One problem that the case has run into is that stun guns are not legal in all states. The Yellowjacket website lays out the states and areas of the country where there are restrictions.
At any rate, the people who live in these states will still have the new fingerprint sensor to at least help prevent hackers from accessing the phones.
