ABC 'Black-Ish' TV Show Premiere Review & Cast: Donald Trump Slams New Show
On Wednesday, business mogul Donald Trump took to Twitter to express his disapproval of ABC's newest sitcom "Black-ish" starring Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross.
The 68-year-old "Apprentice" host slammed the show for its title which he claims is racist.
"How is ABC Television allowed to have a show entitled 'Blackish'? Can you imagine the furor of a show, 'Whiteish'! Racism at highest level?" he tweeted out to his 2.71 Twitter followers.
Although some social media users praised the Donald for his thoughts about the ABC show, many users slammed Trump for suggesting that "Black-ish" is racist. Check out some of the tweets below.
Despite Trump's opinion on the show, "Black-ish" star and executive producer Anthony Anderson explained during an interview with Power 105.1 that "Black-ish" has less to do about race and more to do about " first generation success" and "giving your children more than what you had growing up."
Anderson concluded his explanation of the show by adding that "Black-ish" is meant to focus on the idea of "the American dream."
His "Black-ish" co-star, Tracee Ellis Ross also supported Anderson's explanation that "Black-ish" is more about family than it is racial.
"Black-ish a family comedy about about a black family. It's one of the things that I think is interesting about the show, we're not a family that happens to be black, we are a black family," Ross explained during her interview with Power 105.1. "It's about a black family dealing with their 'ish.' So although the show is not about being black-within the 'ish'-a lot of cultural identity, race, and all those kinds of things come up."
Despite Trump's negative review on the show, "Black-ish" is still well received by the majority of viewers so far.
TV by the numbers shows that in its second week on-air, "Black-ish" has garnered over 8 million viewers.
Watch "Black-ish" on Wednesday on ABC at 9:30/8:30c.
