WWE News & Notes 2014: Rey Mysterio Angers WWE After Meeting With Lucha Underground & El Rey Network Officials
The WWE is angry with Rey Mysterio who recently met with El Rey Network officials at the Sept. 27 Lucha Underground taping after having previously shown an interest in competing with Mexico's AAA organization.
Mysterio has openly stated that he would love to compete in Mexico's wrestling organization that is tied to the Lucha Underground project once his contract with the WWE expires. WWE, however, believes that Mysterio owes the company a year because of his time off spent recovering from various injuries and cannot sign with any organization until May 2015. F4WOnline.com reports that the masked wrestler has stopped cashing his checks, with both sides far apart regarding the contract situation.
Mysterio was a guest of FactoryMade Ventures CEO John Fogelman, whose company partnered with Robert Rodriguez to create the El Rey Network, wining and dining the WWE luchador to dicuss his future plans for after his contract is up with the company.
The addition of Mysterio would give AAA and Lucha Underground a second familiar face to American wrestling audiences after signing El Patron Alberto (formerly Alberto Del Rio) as the Mexican company looks to expand into the North American market. Lucha Underground debuts on the El Rey Network with a two-hour special slated for Wednesday, Oct. 29th.
Meanwhile, Christian's days in the ring seem to be numbered, with the company feeling that he is too injury-prone to compete in the squared circle. Christian, who was out with concussion-like symptoms for a while, is ready to return to action but the WWE has been hesitant to use him due to his age and injury issues. The WWE has been using Christian primarily for their NXT pre-show commentary and a "Peep Show" segment featuring Chris Jericho prior to Night of Champions.
"I think the mentality is that his wrestling days are over, and they probably want to keep him somewhere, but they haven't offered him a spot as an agent or as a trainer," said Wrestling Observer Radio host Dave Meltzer "I don't know if they will, but they [just] haven't cut him yet."
