iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini Release Date Rumors: New Apple Devices Soon to Be Revealed
The upcoming second fall event for Apple, on the company's campus, is a smaller affair than the release of the newest iPhone, but all eyes are on the new iPads to be revealed.
The second general iPad Air, which some have dubbed iPad Air 2, is rumored to have a 12.9-inch Retina display, which has many on social media abuzz about the idea.
It is unclear if the next generation iPad Mini will also include a Retina display, ExtremeTech reported. But a new 27-inch iMac with Retina display is possible as well.
Technology writer Farhad Manjoo, for The New York Times, tweeted, "I'm really looking forward to Retina iMacs. I've never owned an iMac, but that might push me to one."
But other revelations Apple has up its sleeve remain unknown.
Tech columnist and analyst Ben Bajarin tweeted, "I'm hoping Apple keeps non-retina MacBook Airs in the lineup at aggressive prices. Could see huge percentage gains."
Apple Insider reported that the 12-inch MacBook Airs with Retina displays are being produced at a limited pace until the holiday season, starting next month, when production will ramp up.
The event on Oct. 16 will also address the launch of OS X Yosemite, a new mobile wallet app Apple Pay, reports of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus sales and address the controversial "bendgate" issue, Breathecast reported.
Due to its light aluminum casing, the iPhone 6 reportedly was physically bending when users kept them in their pockets, and a slew of YouTube videos emerged testing and proving the bending theory.
Another less pronounced rumor is the option of a gold case, in addition to gray and silver, for iPads and iMacs.
While actual retail prices are unknown, there are some reports that the iPad Air 2 will sell for $499, and the iPad Mini 3 will start at $399.
The invitation to the event was headed with the phrase, "It's been too long," which has caused speculation on what other products are in the lineup, which haven't been upgraded in some time.
ExtremeTech reported that some products like Apple TV, the Mac Mini and the iPod Nano are possibilities.
