Is Robert Downey Jr. Trying to Reconnect With Ex-Girlfriend Sarah Jessica Parker?
The star of the popular "Iron Man" films Robert Downey Jr. visited the Howard Stern Radio Show in New York City and got a bit nostalgic. He claimed that while he was in town he would love to reconnect with ex-girlfriend Sarah Jessica Parker whom he dated for seven years back in the 1980s.
They were Hollywood's "it" couple back in the 80s when they weren't yet Carrie Bradshaw and Tony Stark. The two were up and coming young actors who met on the set of 1984's "Firstborn." Still teenagers, they fell in love, remained together for seven years and ultimately broke up in 1991 because of Downey's drug and alcohol abuse. Years later Downey is now married to film producer Susan Downey, and Parker has been married for seventeen years to "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" star, Matthew Broderick.
During his interview Robert admitted that he would like to catch up with SJP.
"I'll make a point of trying to see her while I'm here. I'd like to." Downey told Stern.
"I'll ask permission," he said. "I just want to check in for a few minutes. I love Matthew Broderick."
When asked if the "Sex and the City" star broke his heart, he replied, "I've never been the kind of person to acknowledge what's going on with me at the time, and I'd try to make light of it. But sure, when you're with someone for seven years, 18 to our mid-20s, it's kind of a big deal."
Robert Downey Jr. even mentioned that he wouldn't mind if his wife and Broderick were present.
"I'd love to have [Matthew] there. I'll bring Susan," he said. Broderick happily replied to Downey's request at the opening of his Broadway show, "It's Only A Play" saying, "Of course, he's more than [okay to connect with her], they're great friends."
"What would I say? No? Who do you think I am? No, I love Robert Downey and Sarah Jessica, so [yes!]." Broderick said.
But what's bigger than her husband's approval is that Parker herself replied to the proposal: "He [Robert] and I have always been on wonderful terms, so of course I'm hospitable to that!"
