"Gotham" detectives Harvey Bullock and Jim Gordon will be protecting the streets of the metropolis for a little longer, now that Fox has announced that it has ordered an additional six episodes of the fresh, dark thriller, boosting the number of episodes to be released this season to a total of 22.

The origin tale of the most prominent characters in DC Comics' "Batman" continued this week with the airing of "Arkham." The episode began with the devious Fish Mooney auditioning two women for an undisclosed role of a lifetime. Mooney asks the vague question, "Are you willing to do whatever it takes to have it all?" The two women square off, and a woman by the name of Liza rises as the victor. Mooney has big plans for the talent, but the agenda has yet to be revealed. 

Gladwell, a violent hitman, appeared as this week's villain, marking off councilmen in Falcone's and Maroni's camp. With little background offered on Gladwell, he uses a hand-crafted switchblade to commit his murders. He also quotes Davinci and holds down a desk job in the center of the city, making it fairly easy for Gordon to track him down. When it's later revealed that the mayor is the next target, there's a showdown between Gladwell and Gordon, and Gordon is forced to fight for his life.

Cobblepot's opening scene with Gordon and Barbara continues from the week prior. And Gordon's reluctance to share details about Cobblepot with his girlfriend, Barbara, drives a wedge between them. Cobblepot's return to Gotham proves that he hasn't given up a desire to run the city. 

A budding criminal mastermind, Cobblepot pays and then poisons thieves, employing them to kill everyone at Maroni's restaurant. Maroni sends armed men to assess the damages following the robbery, and they find Cobblepot in the freezer, conveniently clutching a single bag of Maroni's cash. Phew is rewarded for his loyalty, upgraded from dishwasher and given a brand new suit. While Cobblepot's hands are busy with deception, he's still busy acting a snitch for an unappreciative Gordon.

 "Arkham" comes from the name of Gotham's asylum, which has an obligatory ominous, metal-gated entryway. The institution acts as the centerpiece of the episode. It's connected to the turf war, the murders of the politicians and the murders of Thomas and Martha Wayne. Also, Gotham's mayor announces plans to redevelop land on and around Arkham, which the Wayans never wanted. Bruce shares concerns regarding, fearing that his parents' dream for Arkham to be a destination for those in need will never be realized.

Edward Nygma aka the Riddler made small appearance on earlier episodes, but "Arkham" presents the first opportunity for viewers to see him in conversation with Gordon, regarding the murders.
