As things heat up between new couple Nikki Reed and Ian Somerhalder, Somerhalder's ex-girlfriend and "Vampire Diaries" co-star, Nina Dobrev is doing everything in her power to keep Reed off the "VD" set, Celebrity Dirty Laundry reports.

CDL claims that Reed and Somerhalder's relationship has created high tension on the set of "Vampire Diaries."

Somerhalder dated Dobrev for a few years prior to him dating Reed. And now that Reed and Somerhalder continuously flaunt their love on set, Dobrev is allegedly infuriated.

According to another CDL story, Dobrev is uncomfortable with the fact that she must still work with Somerhalder while he continues to bring Reed along with him during filming.

"Ian's relationship and constant PDA with Nikki has caused most of that tension, where Nina is now left watching her ex-boyfriend [of many years] rub his new romance into everyone's faces, including hers," the CDL story reads.

Because of the high tension between the former lovers, Dobrev has yet to confirm her appearance on show's upcoming season, leaving producers to fear she might quit the show or choose not to renew her contract, according to CDL.

In addition to feeling uncomfortable towards Somerhalder and Reed's PDA, Dobrev is also allegedly upset at Reed for betraying their friendship, CDL reports.

Reed and Dobrev were once friends, and now Dobrev feels that Reed has violated "girl code" by dating her ex, says CDL.

It is still unclear whether Somerhalder will abide by "VD" producers' demands and leave Reed home.

But for now it seems that the new couple will continue to flaunt their love.

Last week, Reed posted an Instagram photo of the couple's latest addition to the family-a cat.

E! News reports that Reed and Somerhalder adopted the cat following their visit to an animal shelter.
