War Machine Attempts Suicide in Jail Following Arrest Over Abuse of Girlfriend Christy Mack
MMA fighter, Jonathan Koppenhaver-also known by his stage name, War Machine-penned a suicide note in his jail cell prior to his suicide attempt last week.
TMZ first reported on War Machine's suicide attempt involving the MMA fighter tying a piece of linen around his neck and to the leg of his jail cell bed.
An officer at the jail happened to find War Machine in the middle of his fatal act and quickly cut the linen from around his neck.
War Machine has since been transferred to a medical isolation cell on suicide watch.
The officer also found a series of suicide notes in War Machine's jail cell in which the MMA fighter depicts himself as a victim on the night that he physically attacked his girlfriend Christy Mack and her alleged lover, Corey Thomas, TMZ reports.
War Machine was initially arrested and sent to Clark County Jail in Las Vegas back in August, following the brutal attack on his girlfriend.
According to the New York Daily News, War Machine currently faces "32 charges related to the August beating on 23-year-old Christy Mack."
At the time of the brutal attack, Mack claimed that War Machine tried to kill her and threatened to rape her.
According to TMZ, War Machine's beating resulted in Mack suffering from "18 broken bones around her eyes, a broken nose, missing teeth, a fractured rib and ruptured liver."
Despite his vicious beating, War Machine writes in his suicide note that he was the victim on the night of the attack.
In the letter obtained by TMZ, War Machine claims that he was devastated the night he found Mack and Thomas together. He justifies his attack by saying that Mack betrayed him and was unfaithful to him.
"Finding what I found that night was devastating to me, more than you will ever know," he wrote. "Not just the unfaithfulness, but the way u cared for him and protected him."
War Machine then concludes his letter by asking for forgiveness.
"I still don't understand how I got into this mess," he continues. "I don't know why this had to happen. My life was going so well." He then went on to say, "I forgive you, please forgive me."
War Machine is due in court for a preliminary hearing on Nov. 14, the New York Daily News reports.
