Star of 'Orphan Black' Coming to Off-Broadway
The star of the clone hit series "Orphan Black" is heading for a different stage in her career -- the Broadway stage, that is. Tatiana Maslany will be appearing in an Off-Broadway play in the Spring 2015.
Maslany has done both dramatic roles and a comedic one on "Parks and Recreation"; this time she will be performing live on Broadway in May 2015. The Canadian-born actress has already made a name for herself in TV and film. Now she will be performing in live theater.
The "Orphan Black" star will be starring opposite Thomas Sadoski in "The Way We Get By." The play is expected to start performances in May at the Second Stage Theater, Variety reported.
Maslany is set to play Beth in "The Way We Get By," while Sadoski will be playing Doug. The two characters, Beth and Doug, are sexual predators who hook up at a wedding. Then they awake together after a drunken night, Variety reported. The play also examines how much they really know about each other as people who have multiple sexual encounters.
Talent galore in "The Way We Get By." This play will mark the world premiere of playwright and filmmaker Neil LaBute. LaBute's Broadway work includes "Reasons to Be Happy" and "The Money Shot," the Huffington Post reported. Movies written and directed by LaBute include "Nurse Betty," "Lakeview Terrace" and "Possession," just to name a few.
The play production will be directed by Leigh Silverman, who was nominated for a Tony this year for the Broadway revival of "Violet," Variety reported.
Maslany will not be the only star in the play. Sadoski, who is a Broadway actor, has also starred in the HBO series "The Newsroom." And he will be in the upcoming NBC mini-series "The Slap" starring Zachary Quinto, Peter Sarsgaard and Mary-Louise Parker, Variety reported.
Previews of "The Way We Get By" are slated to begin on May 12, 2015. The show is scheduled to run through June 28. The exact opening date has not yet been set, Variety reported.
