Mama June Releases Video Reacting to TLC's Cancellation of 'Here Comes Honey Boo Boo'
"Mama June" Shannon has spoken out for the first time since her family's reality television series, "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo," was canceled by TLC network. In a video message uploaded to Facebook, she defends herself against the claims that she has been dating a convicted child sex offender.
The three-minute video is dark and appears to have been recorded on a camera phone. Released to social media Friday, the 35-year-old mom confirmed that TLC had dropped the show, but said the allegations that led to this decision were false.
"I just got a phone call this morning from TLC and as of right now there will be no more production of the show," she said to the camera.
Shannon added that she is not dating the man in the center of the controversy, Mark McDaniel.
"The statement of me dating a sex offender is totally untrue," she said. "Pumpkin has openly said that I did not, that I've not dated him, and also his son [has]."
Her daughter, Anna "Chickadee" Carwell, revealed that she had been molested by McDaniel when she was a young child, furthering complicating the matter.
"I would not ever, ever, ever put my kids in danger, I love my kids too much," Shannon defended. "That is my past. I have not seen that person in 10 years and don't seem to want to see that person."
She then turned the discussion to thank the show's fans for their support during this difficult time.
"We just want to thank, from the bottom of our hearts, the support that we've had from our fans since May 2012," she said. "The experience has been awesome to us. The girls have been able to do things that they would not normally have [been able] to do."
TLC has also said that the already-filmed fourth season will not air. However, Mama June assured that the family will continue to be visible in their community.
"We are still going to do our Christmas display, if y'all choose to come out and meet the family still, to support our community," Shannon said. "We're also going to keep updating throughout what's going on in our life."
