'The Breakfast Club' Actor Judd Nelson Dead? Story About 'The Criminal' Actor's Death Started by Site Pretending to Be Fox News
"Brat Pack" fans can breathe a sigh of relief. Actor Judd Nelson is alive and well despite trending news on Twitter that he had been found dead in his condo, reports the Los Angeles Times.
Nelson, whose role as "The Criminal" John Bender in the 1985 teen movie the "Breakfast Club" won the hearts of many, was falsely reported as found dead Saturday night in his Sierra Towers condo in West Hollywood by the website foxnews.es. The Web page uses a URL impersonating Fox News, causing many fans to believe the "Breakfast Club" star had actually died.
Gregg Klein, Nelson's agent, hurried to Nelson's home Sunday morning to take a photo of the actor with a copy of the Sunday Times. Klein sent the photo of the healthy "Brat Pack" actor holding the Sunday Times to the LA Times with this note, "Reports of Judd Nelson's death are not accurate please see attached photo."
Nelson's manager, Jean-Pierre Henraux, said the actor does not live in the Sierra Towers condominium complex and he has no clue how the rumor started. Henraux confirmed that Nelson is in "perfect" shape and recently completed an episode of the upcoming television series "Empire," in which he plays a long-standing rival of Terrence Howard's character.
Born in Portland, Maine, Nelson currently lives in Los Angeles.
Nelson's acting career began while attending the prestigious Haverford College in Pennsylvania as a philosophy major. He went to watch a friend's audition and was told if he wanted to stay and watch, he'd have to audition, so he did. He won the role.
After graduation, Nelson's acting career took off. Most notably, he appeared in the popular brat-pack films "The Breakfast Club" (1985) and "St. Elmo's Fire" (1985), followed by a role in films including "Billionaire Boys Club" (1987), "From the Hip" (1987) and "New Jack City" (1991).
