Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Release Date: Get the Game One Day Early at Wal-Mart
The next installment in the popular "Call of Duty" series, "Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare," is slated to release next week, but gamers eager to snag a copy a day early will be happy to know that they can do so at Walmart.
The retail giant announced Tuesday that it will begin selling the Day Zero Edition of "Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare" at more than 3,600 stores nationwide at 12:01 a.m. local time Monday, Nov. 3. This is one day earlier than the game's slated launch at other major retailers on Tuesday. Walmart will be selling "Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare" at the standard price of $60.
Walmart also announced that it has started selling certified pre-owned games.
"With 117 million gamers in the U.S., we are constantly looking to provide new and game-changing offerings to those customers," said Laura Phillips, senior vice president of entertainment at Walmart. "We've said that we would focus on the $2 billion pre-owned market, and we're continuing to deliver on that today. Now, customers will be able to visit Walmart for all of their video game wants -- whether they're buying a hot new release like 'Call of Duty' or purchasing a pre-owned game at a great price."
The "Call of Duty" franchise has elevated itself in recent years above that of just a video game. The series has become an incredibly lucrative entertainment asset, and this year's version looks to be no different. Expect more record-breaking sales as it releases for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Microsoft Windows platforms. Sorry Nintendo owners, "Advaned Warfare" will be the first "Call of Duty" not released on a Nintendo platform since "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2."
Developed by Sledgehammer Games and published by Activision, "Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare" is the 11th installment in the culturally significant franchise. The new iteration takes place in 2054, where gamers will take on the role of a mercenary working for Atlas, a company intent on promoting democracy in light of the United States' ineffectiveness and led by CEO and founder Jonathan Irons (voiced by the impeccable Kevin Spacey).
Traditional first-person shooter elements apply, however Advanced Warfare does do away with the usual heads-up display. Instead, player data will projected from the actual weapons themselves. There will also be the usual plethora of high-tech gadgetry available to gamers, including drones.
