Actress Elizabeth Norment, known for her recent role as the secretary to Kevin Spacey's character Frank Underwood in the popular Netflix series "House of Cards," has passed away. She was 61 years old.

According to an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Norment's sister Kate confirmed the sad news on Oct. 13 at Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York.

Norment's obituary was published in The Washington Post, where her cause of death was attributed to cancer.

Cast and crew of the online political drama have expressed how they are grieving after Norment's passing.

Show creator Beau Willimon told CNN that "everyone at 'House of Cards' is deeply saddened by Elizabeth's passing."

"She was a talented actress, a warm soul and a good friend to us all," Willimon added. "Our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this difficult time."

The show's star and Norment's on-screen boss, Kevin Spacey, tweeted about the sorrow felt by everyone on the show.

"RIP Elizabeth Norment. We all loved her and she leaves a void in all of us here at HoC's," he posted.

"House of Cards'" production company, Media Rights Capital, even released public reactions to the actress' death.

"Elizabeth Norment was a talented actress with a beautiful spirit who touched the entire 'House of Cards' family," the company wrote in a statement to CNN. "Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends."

Over the span of her career, Norment has had a wide array of roles on the small screen. She had a recurring role on "Law and Order" in 2008 as Judge Arlene Brewer, also appearing on "ER," "St. Elsewhere," "L.A. Law," "Doogie Howser, M.D," "Party of Five" and "Blue Bloods."

Norment is survived by many of her family members, including her mother and sister.
