Lupillo Rivera 2014: Mexican Singer and Daughter Lupita Record Song for Undocumented Immigrant Children
Lupillo Rivera has recorded a song with his daughter, Lupita, for the undocumented children who arrived to the United States.
Rivera, who earlier in the year was fighting for the unaccompanied, undocumented minors in Murrieta, California, wanted to further support the children through his music. The song is called "Los Niños Inocentes," or "The Innocent Children."
"The song is already on sale," he said. "We are fighting for them and making a donation for those children."
The song tells the story of immigrant children's journey. He said that the children come from El Salvador, Guatemala and Mexico in search for a better life.
Rivera first defended these children by chance. He happened to be driving by when he saw what was happening. He quickly joined in when he saw that protesters were stopping buses full of children from entering Murrieta, California.
"I was passing by the street when I came across the protesters that were in the middle of the street blocking the buses," he said following the occurence. "Look, I believe that children, all the children in the world, it doesn't matter who they are, are innocent and deserve special care. Why don't you want the children to cross? What does it cost us?"
Things quickly escalated, as Rivera was yelled and spat at. This made him believe that many are opposed to immigration because of racism.
Many of the protesters didn't know that Rivera was a celebrity or an American citizen. This made him wonder how they would treat children who they knew for a fact aren't citizens.
A picture of a woman yelling in his face was shared through social media channels. Rivera himself shared the picture, where he pointed out that Latinos are seen as fighters and are attributed with other negative qualities.
