'Fifty Shades of Grey' Movie Cast, News & Release Date: Eddie Redmayne Says E.L. James Didn't Want Him as Christian Grey in 50 Shades
In a recent interview, British actor Eddie Redmayne explained how he would have auditioned for the role of Christian Grey for the upcoming film "Fifty Shades of Grey" movie and why he ultimately did not.
According to E! News, the British actor told reporters during a press junket for "Les Miserables" that he would have auditioned for the lead male part in "Fifty Shades of Grey." However, the book's author, E.L. James, immediately shot the idea down.
"She took to her Twitter feed to go, 'Under no circumstances!'" Redmayne told Variety. "It was like, all right, all right! Am I that bad? I can put a whip in my hand. I can get all kinky, can't I? Apparently not."
Variety's Redmayne profile is the magazine's cover story and talks about the British actor's role in the upcoming film "The Theory of Everything," in which he plays scientist Stephen Hawking.
In the interview, Redmayne also recounted how he and a group of up and coming UK actors experienced Hollywood in their earlier days. This group included Jamie Dornan, who ended up taking the role of Christian Grey.
"We used to go to the Standard Hotel in West Hollywood, and split a sandwich between us because that meant we could get cheaper parking. We'd swim and play table tennis for hours," Redamayne recalled.
There may be another Hollywood star joining Dornan on the big screen. During her Reddit AMA, comedian and actress Amy Poehler mentioned she might appear in the anticipated romance and S&M movie.
"[You can] catch me as a dungeon master in '50 Shades of Grey!' You can't tell it's me cuz [sic] I'm wearing a mask!" she told fans.
Yet, her admission may be more tongue-in-cheek than serious. What do you think of a masked Amy Poehler in the film?
