Dallas Cowboys Roster News & Notes: Will Tony Romo Play in NFL Week 9 Match Against Arizona Cardinals?
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo remains doubtful for the team's NFL Week 9 match against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday at AT&T Stadium.
Romo sustained back contusion during their 20-17 loss to the Washington Redskins on Monday. He was able to return to the game but is still considered doubtful for their next match after his limited participation in practice.
Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said that they are closely monitoring Romo's condition and they will have a chance to gauge his status again in practice on Friday.
"We're going to see what he's able to do today in practice," Garrett said before Friday's practice via NFL.com. "Getting his rehab, getting his treatment and really taking it day by day, so we'll see what he's able to accomplish."
Garrett is still hoping that Romo will recover in time for their game against the Cardinals, but he said that they will only allow the 34-year-old quarterback if he is already moving well in their scheduled walk-through for Sunday's game.
"Obviously, we have to see him move around at some point before the game starts, so hopefully he can do something today," Garrett said. "We'll have a walk-through tomorrow, and we still got about 48 hours until the game, so we want to give him every chance."
Romo said on Wednesday that the pain level is still similar to what he was feeling after Monday's match. If the pain will be tolerable heading into Sunday's match, the veteran QB reiterated that he will decide to play, but he admitted that it will still depend on how he thinks his contribution will be should he play even if he is not 100 percent healthy.
"That part has never been an issue," Romo said of playing if the lingering pain becomes tolerable via ESPN. "But we've got to wait and see. It will be about your ability to be productive in some fashion. That part of it, we will continue to evaluate."
Brandon Weeden, who complete 4-of-6 passes for 69 yards when he went in for Romo on Monday, is expected to start if the Cowboys decide to sit Romo out against the Cardinals.
