Manny Pacquiao Next Fight: Chris Algieri Not Worried About Judges, Aiming for a Convincing Win Over ‘Pacman’
Chris Algieri is not worried about the possibility of absorbing a controversial decision loss to Manny Pacquiao in their upcoming showdown, saying that he is aiming to score a very convincing victory.
Previous reports indicated that his camp fears that they might end up losing via questionable decision from the judges, knowing that the fight will be held in Macau where Pacquiao is a fan favorite.
However, Algieri, who will face Pacquiao in the biggest fight of his career on Nov. 22, reiterated that he is not thinking about the judges because he is confident that the fight will not be a close one.
"I'm just focused on doing what I need to do," Algieri said via Bad Left Hook. "I think if I go out there and I win every round the way I'm planning to or want to, then it can't be close. I don't plan for close fights. I plan for tough fights, but not for close fights. I'm going out there to win every round. That's how I approach every fight. This fight is not any different than any other fight in my career. I don't want close fights. I want to dominate fights."
Algieri, who holds a perfect 20-0 record with eight knockouts, is already undergoing intense sparring sessions. He said that his camp is having hard time simulating Pacquiao's fighting style, but he is convinced that they are doing enough to be 100 percent prepared for his showdown against the former pound-for-pound king.
"There's only one Manny Pacquiao. There's nobody out there that fights like him," Algieri said. "But we can take different aspects of his style and find partners that have done that. We have. My coaches have done a great job doing that. Every session we're just trying to accomplish certain goals, and little check-offs as we go from week-to-week, and put it all together. Fight night will be the finished product."
Algieri, who won the World Boxing Council light welterweight title against Ruslan Provodnikov in June, is aiming to take Pacquiao's WBO welterweight belt to become a two-division champion in just 21 professional bouts.
