HTC One M8 Smartphone Review: Price, Specs, Pros and Cons You Need to Know
Here's our breakdown of everything you need to know about the HTC One M8.
Pros and Cons
Some of the main highlights of the HTC One M8 include a relatively higher pixel density of 441
ppi, a 5-megapixel secondary camera, upgrade capabilities to 5.0 Lollipop, 496 hours of standby, storage
expansion up to 128GB, Duo camera, and an aluminium casing. The HTC Sense UI v6 is quite
smooth.
At 9.4 mm and 160 g, the HTC One M8 is much thicker and a little heavier than its competitors.
If the experts at HTC wanted to build the One M8 as a smartphone, they should have fitted it
with a more powerful primary camera. It has a dual 4-megapixel primary camera even when
other phones feature at least 8-megapixels of primary camera lenses.
Specs
The HTC One M8 has a 5.0-inch Super LCD3 display with a resolution of 1080x1920 pixels and a
pixel density of 441 ppi. The phone weighs 160 g, which is relatively higher compared to most
other smartphones in its class. The phone is available in 16GB and 32GB configurations with
expansion capability up to 128GB. The manufacturer has floated a 2.26-GHz, Quad-core Krait
400 CPU in the US but a 2.45-GHz, Quad-core processor for its Asian customers.
The phone has 2GB LPDDR3 RAM and comes packed with Android KitKat v4.4.2. But it can be
upgraded to Android v4.4.3 or the new version 5.0 Lollipop. The HTC Sense UI 6 sits on top of
the operating system. The 2600-mAh battery can power the phone for 496 hours of standby
time, and 20+ hours of talktime, but the battery is not replaceable.
Talking Points
The HTC One M8 is the second-generation HTC One unveiled by the company in March 2014
and available by mid-April. The design features are the same as of the first generation but
the phone is larger and features a more powerful CPU.
HTC launched the phone in silver, grey and amber gold colors. But the gold color was made
available exclusively on Best Buy. The company made a commitment to provide firmware
updates for at least 2 years. The phone's Android KitKat v4.4.4 update was recently released in
October 2014 and another Lollipop update is in the pipeline.
Prices
The HTC One M8 is available at Amazon for a price of $699.99.
Conclusion
The HTC One M8 fares well in all departments - an aluminium body, a powerful CPU, lots of
storage capacity and a decent memory size. But the company could have done better by fitting
it with a more powerful primary camera (or cameras).
