NBA Fantasy Basketball Rankings & Waiver Wire: Top Performer & Disappointments in Opening Week
The new NBA Fantasy Basketball season is underway and most owners are now getting a glimpse on the potential of their teams.
Here is a quick look at the top performers in Week 1 along with players who disappointed their fantasy owners:
Top Performer - Anthony Davis
Anthony Davis is expected to have a big year this season, and the New Orleans Pelicans made his owners feel good about themselves with his impressive performance in Week 1.
The 21-year-old power forward started the new season with a bang as he tallied 26 points and 17 rebounds to go along with nine blocks and three steals during their 101-84 win over the Orlando Magic on Tuesday.
Davis followed it up with another impressive night as he racked up 31 points, 15 rebounds, three blocks and two steals in their 109-104 loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday.
In his first two games this season, Davis, the second-ranked player in most draft boards, averaged 28.5 points and 16.0 rebounds to go along with 6.0 blocks and 2.5 steals per game.
Who to Pick Up From Waiver Wire?
Perry Jones of the Oklahoma City Thunder is a must-own player in all formats after Russell Westbrook also went down with a hand fracture, joining Kevin Durant on the sidelines.
Over the last two games, Jones averaged 27.5 points on 54.3 percent shooting from the field to go along with 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists. He is expected to produce big numbers until Westbrook and Durant return to the lineup.
Aside from Jones, fantasy owners should also take a serious look at Chris Copeland of the Indiana Pacers, Tony Wroten of the Philadelphia 76ers and Brandan Wright of the Dallas Mavericks if they are still available for pick up.
Meanwhile, here is a look at the players who failed to hit expectations during the opening week of the new season:
Jeremy Lin of the Los Angeles Lakers was projected to have a great opening week as he was named as the new starting point guard of his new team. But instead of making his fantasy owners smile with his performance, most of them shook their heads because of Lin's inconsistency.
Lin averaged just 9.0 points and 5.5 assists in their first four games where he shot a measly 34.5 percent from the field and committed 3.8 turnovers a game. His owners should not push the panic button, though, because the 26-year-old point guard is expected to start every game barring injuries.
Damian Lillard also failed to live up to expectations. He was considered as one of the top point guards this season, but the 24-year-old averaged just 13.7 points on 26.8 percent shooting from the field to go along with 5.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game.
