Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon Celebrates Midterm Elections by Sharing a Photo of a Buttcrack on Twitter [Pic]
It has happened to many people -- you accidently send an embarrassing picture via text message or post it to social media. Now, imagine posting a mortifying image to Twitter when you are a politician with 19,500 followers.
That's exactly what happened when Democrat Jay Nixon, governor of Missouri, tweeted a picture of a constituent and himself voting at the polls on Tuesday, reports KMBC-TV. In the picture, he is seated next to a woman whose pants had slid down so low that her butt was showing.
The governor's office quickly deleted the picture from his official Twitter account and replaced it with a new photo of Nixon casting his ballot in a different pose, but not soon enough -- the picture was retweeted and went viral.
Many people on social media were "cracking" jokes about the faux pas, including 2012 U.S. Republican Party presidential nominee and radio host Herman Cain (@THEHermanCain), 68, who retweeted Nixon's picture with this caption, "ELECTION DAY UPDATE: Let's just say this photo tweeted this AM by Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon left us 'cracking' up."
This is not the first controversy Nixon has faced this year, although it is certainly the most amusing. In August, Nixon's handling of the Michael Brown shooting and subsequent Ferguson protests earned him international attention and criticism.
Nixon, 58, is a member of the Democratic Party and the 55th and current Governor of the state of Missouri. He was elected Governor in 2008. A University of Missouri School of Law graduate and lawyer, Nixon was first elected to the Missouri State Senate in 1986. He served that post until elected Attorney General of Missouri in 1993. He lost the Senate seat in 1998 to incumbent Kit Bond.
In 2008, Nixon defeated Representative Kenny Hulshof in the general election and was elected Governor. Reelected in 2012, he began his second term in January 2013.
