Untethered iOS 7 & 8 iPhone Jailbreak, Eva3rs & Pangu 2014: New 8.1 Update Likely to Affect Future Jailbreaks
Jailbreaking one's Apple device may be fun and useful for some, but Apple will be releasing a new update that could prevent further jailbreaks and potentially render other jailbreaks useless.
Apple announced and released on Tuesday the iOS 8.1.1 beta to developers. The iOS update will patch up any bugs in the current iOS but also render the previous jailbreaks useless. Once the upgrade is released, users who employ it will not be able to use the iOS 8/8.1 jailbreak developed by Pangu on their devices.
"Apple has released iOS 8.1.1 beta to developers. After our tests, it has patched the jailbreak exploit. Anyone who wishes to jailbreak, please seize the chance to upgrade to iOS 8.1 and do so before Apple officially releases iOS 8.1.1," the Pangu Team announced on the Weibo page.
Although Pangu released the jailbreak for iOS 8 just 35 days after the software upgrade, they did not provide information of when they will device a jailbreak compatible with the new software, leaving users with the decisions of whether to jailbreak while with iOS 8 or upgrade to the new software once it become available.
If you have jailbroken your device and are running iOS 8 or 8.1, do not upgrade, for you will lose the jailbreak. However, if you have not used jailbreak, you may want to upgrade and wait for a jailbreak that works for the upgrade, since Pangu has not sorted all the bugs with the current jailbreak.
If you're running an older OS, upgrade to 8.1 and jailbreak your device. Although, if you have an iPhone 4S or older, iOS 8 does not work well and may cause more headaches.
According to Tech Times, Pangu's jailbreak will install Cydia, an unofficial app store that allows one to install apps not approved by Apple.
