Brazilian musician MC Lello died at 4:22 a.m. on Thursday in São Paulo.

The 28-year-old was diagnosed with cancer a year and three months ago. Wesley Pinheiro da Silva, which is the late rapper's real name, was an up-and-comer. One of his videos, "Aperta O Start," had garnered 320,000 views. Some of his other songs include "300 Tiros Por Minuto" (300 Rounds Per Minute) and "Vem Bandida" (Come Bandit).

His girlfriend, Beatriz Alves, shared a picture of the two kissing and she announced that the artist had died.

"Today the sky gained a star," she said. "I love you and the pain is huge. I will always love you, love of my life..Go with God."

Alves explained that Lello was first diagnosed with testicular cancer, which spread to his lungs. On Wednesday night, the artist couldn't breathe, and he went to the hospital.

Still, Alves also said Lello never lost his sense of humor.

"I hope the fans remember him as a very happy person," she said. "Everything was a joke to him. He was very outgoing and was very funny, even through everything that happened."

MC Lello had been absent on his Instagram account in the last few weeks. The last time he posted was Oct. 22, where he shared a picture of himself and his girlfriend celebrating their anniversary. Lello said she surprised him.

His Instagram account is full of videos of himself, but he also scattered small pieces of his life throughout. On top of posting pictures of his girlfriend, he also posted pictures of his family. Two months ago, the rapper shared a picture of himself with his younger sister, in which he explained that family comes first.

A memorial will take place on Thursday at the Memorial Parque Paulista, and the funeral will be on Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the same place. Alves said that fans are welcome to both the wake and the funeral.
