Jake Locker Injury: Titans Win, But Starting Quarterback Goes Down
The Tennessee Titans were on their way to a key conference victory over the New York Jets when the team held their breath after a play in the third quarter.
Titans quarterback Jake Locker fell to the ground with a right hip injury that was so bad that he had to be taken to an ambulance and transported to a nearby hospital.
"It is definitely bittersweet," wide receiver Damian Williams said. "Obviously you have to enjoy the win. It is the first time we've performed like this together, offensively and defensively. But when your general goes down, when your captain goes down, it is definitely tough for the team. We're all praying and hoping for the best."
The Titans are not sure when they will have their starting quarterback on the field again, but in the meantime the team is now 3-1 and tied with the Indianapolis Colts for first place in the AFC South.
Locker is no stranger to injuries. Last year he missed five games after dislocating his shoulder. The 2011 first round pick was just getting himself into a groove when he went down with the injury on Sunday.
"It was a really big shot," Titans running back Chris Johnson said. "We had a lot of momentum, everything going our way and just for the play to happen like that ... it just kind of sucked it all out of us."
Thankfully for the Titans, backup quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick knows everything about the Jets since he used to play for their division rival, the Buffalo Bills. Fitzpatrick launched a huge 77-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Nate Washington to help finish off the Jets.
