NBA Free Agents 2015 Rumors: Will Kevin Love Leave Cleveland Cavaliers to Consider Signing With Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets, New York Knicks?
Kevin Love is one of the building blocks of the Cleveland Cavaliers, but the All-Star power forward might also consider leaving the Cavs after the 2014-15 NBA season.
Sam Smith of NBA.com reported that the Cavaliers will be in a difficult situation next summer as both LeBron James and Love could opt out of their respective deals.
James' future in Cleveland looks set, though, as he already reiterated that he will finish his career with the Cavaliers after deciding to leave the Miami Heat during the offseason.
"It's not going to get as much discussion during the season, but one of the biggest issues for the Cavs is that both LeBron James and Kevin Love own opt-outs after this season," Smith said. "LeBron James basically cannot afford to go anywhere after his return to Cleveland."
However, Love's case is different as the 26-year-old forward is expected to draw the interest of several teams when he hits free agency next summer.
And according to Smith, the former UCLA standout, who will likely opt out of the final year of his contract in the offseason, will consider signing with the Los Angeles Lakers.
"But watch out for Love," Smith said. "Indications are he will seriously consider the opt-out and has his eyes on a return to Los Angeles, where he attended college and where the Lakers long have had him on their free agent wish list."
The Lakers are expected to target big-name free agents again this summer after failing to catch a big fish this year. Previous reports indicated that Love, who is averaging 18.0 points and 11.2 rebounds, will actually be their top target next summer if the six-year veteran decides to opt out of his deal.
Aside from the Lakers, Dan Favale of Bleacher Report also reported that the New York Knicks and Houston Rockets will also make a strong push to acquire Love.
Favale added, though, that the Cavaliers will likely retain Love because they are the only team who could offer a maximum five-year deal. Playing alongside James and Kyrie Irving also gives Love a good chance of winning his first NBA championship.
